Inigo Jones Slate Works
Inigo Jones Slate Works is located near Caernarfon in Gwynedd, Wales. It has been prefabricating various slate products since 1861 and you can visit the works to see how the products are made.
You can enjoy a self-guided tour around the site which includes a film presentation and an audio commentary on provided headsets. There are geological, historical, calligraphy and letter-cutting exhibitions that explain how this 500 million-year-old product is mined, machined and marketed around the world. Children can complete a quiz for the chance to win a prize.
The works showroom displays a wide variety of natural slate products, Welsh slate crafts and other products. You also have the chance to try out calligraphy and slate engraving and make your very own slate memento. You will be able to see the machines and craftsmen in action. Tours take around 1hr – 1.5hrs.
