Dales Countryside Museum

Museum Overview

The Dales Countryside Museum is located in the village of Hawes, North Yorkshire. The museum tells the story of the people who have lived and worked in the Yorkshire Dales for over 1,000 years.

It is situated beside the disused Hawes railway station. Outdoors there is a real steam train and carriages on the trackbed of the former Wensleydale railway. In the Life Gallery, you can discover the elements of the local landscape with archaeology displays. There is an interesting mining display and a realistic arming display. Plus you can see what an early 19th-century traditional kitchen would have looked like.

There is a makers and menders display, railway carriages you can climb aboard and more. Kids can get creative in the Creation Station and there are lots of things to do all around the museum. They also host special events and exhibitions.
