The Shipley Glen Tramway is located close to Saltaire, West Yorkshire. The unique tramway was built in 1895 and it operates a narrow-gauge funicular railway. They are located in the wooded Shipley Glen near the village of Saltaire.

What can you do at Shipley Glen Tramway>

The line is operated by volunteer staff on behalf of a charitable trust. The line is electrically operated and has been brought up to modern safety standards. There are two trams with canopy tops that run up and down a steep wooded hill every 3 minutes or as required. The line is nearly a quarter of a mile in length. You can also explore the woodland and rocks of Shipley Glen.

At the bottom station, there is a small museum with pictures and artefacts relating to the tramway. They are also a short walk from the world heritage village of Saltaire. At the top, there’s a pub called the Old Glen House which is a few minutes walk away.

Adult day rover £2.50, children 5-16 £1.50 and children under 5 are free. Other pricing options including single fares are available.

There is parking, charges may apply. The lower car park is the larger of the two.

When are they open?

The Shipley Glen Tramway is open Saturdays and Sundays only 12 pm-4 pm with plans to extend opening days. For up-to-date opening times and dates please visit their website.
