The Leeds City Museum is located in the heart of the centre of Leeds, West Yorkshire. The museum was originally established in 1819 and was reopened in 2018. It is housed in the former Mechanics’ Institute that was built by Cuthbert Broderick.

The museum has six galleries across four floors. There is the story of life on Earth which is told using their large collection of animals, and more. From fearsome tigers to prehistoric beasts, there is lots to discover. The Collectors Cabinet tells the story of collecting in Leeds from 1700 onwards. This includes an impressive skeleton of what was once one of the largest birds in the world.

Another gallery explores Asian culture and its links to Leeds. There are themed displays with an ever-changing selection. Another gallery tells the history of Leeds. Then in Ancient Worlds, you can find out how the Egyptians, Romans and Greeks lived their lives.
