Westminster Abbey
Westminster Abbey is one of London’s most famous and iconic buildings, notably used by the Royal family. It is a large, mainly Gothic abbey church close to the Houses of Parliament. The abbey is the burial site of more than 3,300 people usually of prominence in British history. There are at least 16 monarchs, 8 Prime Ministers, poets laureates, actors, scientists and the Unknown Warrior.
The Abbey has had a turbulent past but what remains today is pretty spectacular. It has even seen every English and British Monarch (who has ever been crowned) crowned there. The throne on which many of them have sat is now housed within the Abbey in St George’s chapel near the West Door.
You can explore Westminster Abbey yourselves or you can book a 90-minute tour by one of the Abbey’s vergers. This includes parts of the abbey not open to general visitors.
