Things to see at Old Royal Navy College – The Painted Hall

The grounds and some of its buildings are open to visitors. The buildings were originally built to serve as the Royal Hospital for Seamen. The hospital closed in 1869 and between 1873 and 1998 it was the Royal Navy College, Greenwich.

In 2014 the famous painted hall was restored over the course of the next three years and reopened in 2019. You can now view the magnificent room and tickets for the Painted Hall give you unlimited re-entry for a whole year. This can be done when you book or at the Visitor Centre.

Your ticket includes entrance to the Baroque interiors of the painted hall, entrance to a Victorian Skittle alley and there is a fascinating permanent exhibition including historical artefacts, scale models, film footage and hands-on displays. There are also tours that are bookable in advance. Tickets also include a multimedia guide which is available in a number of languages.

Without a ticket, you can enjoy the grounds where you are surrounded by some of the finest buildings in the world. You can also visit the Chapel of St Peter and St Paul and admire the neoclassical interiors.
