Churnet Valley Railway

The Churnet Valley Railway is a heritage railway near Stoke-on-Trent in Staffordshire. It operates along a part of the former North Staffordshire railway’s Churnet Valley line. The two main stations are Cheddleton and Kingsley and Froghall. The railway is run by a team of volunteers.

The railway takes you on a journey back to the classic days of railway travel through some beautiful countryside which is known as Staffordshire’s “Little Switzerland”. The picturesque stations have a range of visitor facilities and there’s plenty to see along the way. The journey between Kingsley and Froghall station to Ipstones is around 11 miles. The return journey takes around 2 hours.

The railway hosts a range of special events and also special dining trains. Their dining trains include a breakfast train, cream tea, Saturday lunch, Sunday lunch and more.

Is there food and drink available?

There are hot and cold food and drinks at Froghall and Cheddleton stations, they also run dining trains. You are welcome to bring a picnic.

What are the main things to do?

Journey on a heritage steam railway through picturesque countryside, dining trains are available and annual events. There are toilets and places to purchase food and drinks.

What are the ticket prices?

An adult ticket costs around £17, children 4-15 around £11. Under 4s are free. Other pricing options including family tickets are available.

Froghall station has a large car park.
