Broughton Castle

Broughton Castle is a picturesque medieval fortified manor house near Banbury in Oxfordshire. The castle sits on an artificial island and is surrounded by a wide moat. It was built back in 1300 and has been transformed through the ages. Most of what you see today dates from the 1550s.

You can explore the manor house and see arms and armour in the Great Hall from the Civil War period. You can also see the gatehouse, dining room, long gallery, bedrooms, great parlour, oak room and more.

There are beautiful gardens and parkland to also explore plus a 14th-century parish church in which there are many family tombs. The gardens are a mix of formal and informal and are a great space for kids to burn off some energy. The castle is an overlooked gem.

Is there food and drink available?

There is a tea room serving hot and cold food and drinks. Picnics are not permitted. You can request to bring a picnic via written permission.

What are the main things to do?

A historic moated castle you can explore plus extensive grounds and gardens. Toilets and a tea room. Please note that all public toilets are in the main building in the car park – there are none available at the Castle.
