Sandringham Estate is in Sandringham, Norfolk. Sandringham House is the private home of the King, whose grandfather, George VI and grandfather George V both died there. The estate at Sandringham is huge and totals around 20,000 acres. It is set in an area of outstanding natural beauty.

What is there to do at Sandringham Estate?

Sandringham Royal Park is always open to visitors and you can visit without paying to visit Sandringham House. There is a large and free wooden adventure playground that has recently undergone a bit of upgrade. It’s a great play space for young and older kids. The Royal Park is 243 hectares in size and there are two waymarked Nature trails through woodland. If you are visiting by car there is a small charge to park.

If you want to visit Sandringham House and its formal gardens you will need to pay to enter. The house is set on 60 acres of stunning gardens and you can look around the main ground floor rooms of the house, although when they are in residence the house is closed so do check ahead before you visit. The gardens are home to an Exhibition and Transport museum which includes the first Royal motor car plus other historic vehicles. There is also a beautiful medieval church and walks in the gardens.

Is there food and drink available?

There is a cafe serving hot and cold food and drinks. You are welcome to bring a picnic.

Free parkland with walks and a great wooden adventure play area. Plus a historic house belonging to the King and gardens you can look around. There are toilets and a cafe.

What are the ticket prices?

Parts of the estate are free to visit. For Sandringham House and Gardens, there is a charge to visit, this is £20 an adult and children under 17 are free.

Is there parking?

Parking is complimentary for those visiting the house and gardens. For those parking to visit the rest of the estate there is a charge for parking.

When are they open?

Sandringham Royal Oak Parkland is open all year round. Sandringham House and Gardens is open from April until October, although the house isn’t always open. For up-to-date opening times please visit their website.

Dog friendly?

Only assistance dogs are permitted in the house and gardens, dogs are permitted in the Royal Oak parkland.
