Astley Hall near Chorley in Lancashire is a country house now owned by the town and it is also known as Astley Hall museum and art gallery. The large landscaped gardens are now Chorley’s Astley Park.

Things to do at Astley Hall

Within the grounds, you will find acres of parkland, the Grade I historic house and the modernised Coach house which includes a cafe. There is a scenic walled garden, a pet corner and an array of play areas and sports pitches. They also host a variety of annual events.

In the house itself, you can see a number of rooms with some surprising features. These include mid-17th century plaster ceilings which are some of the best in the country and rare painted panelling.

The park itself stretches out to almost 44 acres. There are several walkways which lead you into woodland. As well as sports pitches there are tennis courts and a bowling green which are all available for the public to use. The park has some exciting adventure play areas including the Royalist’s Retreat with a tower, zip line slides and more plus a toddler area. Don’t forget to visit Pets Corner with its small fluffy animals, reptiles and birds.
