Science and Industry Museum

The Science and Industry Museum is located in the heart of Manchester. It is full of amazing objects and revolutionary ideas that changed the world forever. From the Industrial Revolution to today and beyond.

Museum Overview

At the museum, you can find out how the city’s heritage is interwoven with the cotton industry and see science brought to life in Experiment, the museum’s family-friendly interactive gallery. The museum is set within the enormous grounds of the old Liverpool St station, the oldest rail terminus in the world. There is a large collection of locomotives, steam engines and original factory machinery.

The museum is for everyone but they have made it as family-friendly as possible so that kids don’t find it boring. There’s plenty to keep them interested with interactive exhibits including a printing press and an early electric-shock machine. You can also get to grips with all kinds of space-age technology.

There is even an astronaut virtual-reality experience called Space Descent VR with Tim Peake. There are extra activities, workshops and festivals available over the weekends and the school holidays. Parts of the museum may be closed during your visit as a multi-million-pound restoration project is underway.
