Ravenglass and Eskdale Steam Railway

The Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway is a heritage railway in Ravenglass, Cumbria. The 7-mile line runs from Ravenglass to Dalegath station near Boot in the valley of Eskdale in the lake district. Ravenglass is the only coastal village to be listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

What is there to see and do?

The railway passes past seven request stops. There is a museum which tells the story of the railway through artefacts, steam locomotives and more. There are hands-on interactive features and entrance to the museum is free.

If you are looking to extend your visit there are also a number of walks and walking trails at the stops. There is an app available with various guided short walking routes. Things to see include a Roman Bathhouse and Muncastler castle, Ravenglass beach, waterfall, mill, Japanese gardens and more. Some attractions may have a charge to visit. The railway hosts a number of yearly events.

There are play areas located at Ravenglass and Dalegarth stations (either end of the line). Dalegarth has been designed with trains in mind including a wooden train to play on.

Is there food and drink available?

The railway has two cafes serving hot and cold food and drinks. The Turntable cafe is located at Platform 1 of Ravenglass station and Fellbites cafe is at their Dalegarth-for-boot station.

Steam railway with a museum two play areas at either end, walks and easy access to local attractions. There are toilets and cafes.

What are the ticket prices?

An adult return costs £18, children are £12. Under 5s are free. Single tickets and family tickets are also available.

There is a pay and display car park.

Dog friendly?

Dogs are welcome to travel on the railway for a small charge and are permitted in some of the buildings.
