Raby Castle
Raby Castle is a medieval castle near Staindrop in County Durham. It was built in the late 14th century and has around 200 acres of deer park plus plenty to keep the family entertained on a day out.
What can you do at Raby Castle?
The parkland is home to herds of red and fallow deer. You can explore the park and spot lots of wildlife in and around the pounds. There is a 5-acre 18th-century walled garden and plenty of opportunities to stretch your legs.
Indoors you can see the Coach house and stables with their collection of 18th-century travelling chariots. When visiting the castle make sure you pick up a free, activity sheet which leads children around the rooms of the castle. There are questions to answer and items to look out for. The castle also hosts annual family-friendly events,. The approach to the castle is spectacular with its ornamental lake, deer, towers and turrets. There are impressive rooms to see within the house.
Raby Castle has a relatively new and fabulous outdoor play area. The Plotters Forest is set in the woodlands and features walkways and towers. There are all sorts of fun to be enjoyed with talking tubes, treetop tunnels and more. There is a smaller area for toddlers, with mini turrets, climbing equipment and more.

There is the Vinery Cafe, this is located inside a stylish and airy recreation of the historic glass house which once stood on the same location.

What are the ticket prices?
An adult all-access ticket costs £13, children 4-15 are £6.50 and children under 4 are free. Other pricing options are available and it is cheaper in the winter or with a ticket just for the deer park and gardens. Family tickets and annual passes are available.

Dog friendly?
Dogs are welcome on a lead in the Deer Park, Yurt Café and Stables Shop. Please note only assistance dogs are permitted inside the castle.
