Burton Constable Hall and Grounds

In the countryside north of Hull in East Yorkshire, there is a large Elizabethan country house which you can look around. There are also grounds of around 300 to explore which were designed by Capability Brown.

What can you do at Burton Constable Hall & Grounds?

We really enjoyed our visit to the Grade 1 listed house. There’s plenty to see with some really opulent rooms. There are trails for the kids and sometimes these are themed depending on the time of year. We took part in one where you have to find different items around the house, it was quite a challenge. The staff are friendly and very informative, we learnt a lot about the family history connected with the house.

In the stables, they have set it up how it would have looked in the past. You can even climb the clock tower and see where the grooms and stable boys would have slept. There’s also a skeleton of a sperm whale in one of the stables.

They don’t really have a play area at Burton Constable. There are a few small wooden items for smaller children near the orangery but nothing for older kids. If you visit in the school holidays they will usually have themed trails etc. on for the kids around the grounds and in the hall.

There are around 300 acres of parkland to explore, although access is not always possible due to grazing cattle. If you want to spend longer exploring you may want to ring ahead to find out what is accessible.

There is a cafe on-site which serves a limited menu. Hot and cold food and drinks are available.

Elizabethan house which you can explore, parkland and themed stables including a sperm whale skeleton and a small play area for younger children. There are toilets and a cafe.

What are the ticket prices?

A house, grounds and stables ticket for adults costs £13.00, children 5-16 are £6.95. Under 5’s are free, other pricing options such as family tickets and annual passes are available.

There is free parking.

When are they open?
