Wingham Wildlife Park

Wingham Wildlife Park

Wingham Wildlife Park is a great attraction for animal lovers, located between Canterbury and Sandwich. They have over 200 different species – the biggest variety in Kent, including giraffes, tigers, lions, moon bears, meerkats, chimpanzees, wolves and red pandas.

Things to do at Wingham Wildlife Park

You can get up close to the animals with walkthrough enclosures for smaller creatures including lemurs, flamingos and wallabies. There is also a reptile house with snakes, lizards, creepy crawlies and amphibians, and a tropical house with birds, butterflies and bats.

As if that wasn’t enough, there is also a dinosaur zone, with moving animatronic dinosaurs complete with sound effects! If the kids still have some energy to burn off, there is a large outdoor adventure playground, plus an indoor soft play – so you can still have fun whatever the weather.  For an extra thrill, you can race around the go-kart track or play on the diggers.

Other indoor attractions include the chimp house, which has an indoor viewing area with a number of smaller monkeys inside. There is also a small museum which is missed by most visitors. Most of the outdoor animal enclosures have a covered area, and there is also a covered picnic area in addition to the two cafes, so don’t let a little rain put you off.

Besides the animals themselves one of our favourite features at Wingham Wildlife Park is the sandpit in the dinosaur zone, where you can uncover your very own ‘fossils’. We also love feeding the goats and wallabies in the walkthrough, the birds (including chickens and peacocks) that roam free-range around the park, and the koi carp in the lake. If you get there when the park opens you can sometimes even see the penguins being taken for a walk!

A day out at Wingham Wildlife Park is perfect for animal lovers of all ages and is particularly good for toddlers, and preschoolers as there is so much to entertain them. The park is not too big for them to walk around.
