Lowther Castle and Gardens

Lowther Castle and Gardens

Lowther Castle and Gardens is a great day out for adults and children alike. It is one of those places where there is something for everyone. The whole family will enjoy a day out here, and you will indeed want to spend a full day exploring the Castle grounds, formal gardens, hidden ponds and the Lost Castle adventure playground.

What you can do at Lowther Castle and Gardens

Depending on the time of day you arrive, you may want to start with some refreshments in the tearoom, which is situated by the entrance courtyard.

Leaving the tearoom, pay your entry and head to explore the history of the castle ruins. Lowther Castle itself is quite dramatic. It was demolished in 1957 and just the facade and outer walls remained. The place has so much history and so many hidden gems lay within the gardens.

There is a mix of formal and wild gardens to explore, and here you will also find a huge lawn perfect for picnics and up in the trees, rope swings. The real end goal, however, will be when you find yourself at the Lost Castle adventure playground. One of the biggest of its kind in the U.K., it caters for ALL ages. With slides, rope bridge, sandpits, zip lines and swings, to name but a few things you will find here. You can easily spend a couple of hours here alone!
