Sledmere House & Gardens

Sledmere House and Gardens are located inland in the East Riding of Yorkshire. There are things to do indoors and outdoors, although if you do wish to visit the house, it has limited opening dates compared to the grounds, farm and play park. Sledmere is a great family day out in East Yorkshire, offering a mix of beautiful grounds, historic features and child‑friendly activities.

One of the biggest highlights for families is the free‑to‑visit adventure playground, located just outside the main entrance. It’s a spacious, modern play area with climbing frames, slides, swings and plenty of room for kids to run around. Because it’s outside the paid section, you can visit the playground without buying a ticket, making it perfect for a quick stop or a budget‑friendly outing. Nearby, you’ll also find the Sledmere Farm Shop, which is free to browse and packed with local produce, gifts, fresh bakery items and seasonal treats. The Courtyard Café is also freely accessible, offering hot meals, cakes and drinks without needing entry to the main attraction.

For those wanting the full experience, Sledmere House and Gardens offer a range of paid attractions. Tickets give you access to the historic stately home, where you can explore beautifully decorated rooms, grand architecture and fascinating displays about the Sykes family. The Walled Garden and wider grounds are also included, offering peaceful walks, colourful borders and plenty of space for children to explore nature. Families especially love the Sledmere Farm Park, a paid area where you can meet friendly animals, enjoy hands‑on activities and learn about life on the estate. Seasonal events such as pumpkin trails, Easter hunts and Christmas experiences are also ticketed and extremely popular.

In the house, there is a small wagoners museum. When the house is open, families can pick up a House quiz, which is a fun and interesting way to learn about the house. The house is both Georgian and Edwardian, as it was almost destroyed by fire in 1911. Luckily, most of the contents were saved and can be seen in the house today.

Plus tickets just for the grounds are cheaper at £14.40 per adult and £7.20 per child. Tickets on the door cost more. You can visit the cafe, large outdoor play area and farm shop for free.
