The National Space Centre

The National Space Centre, located in the centre of Leicester, is one of the UK’s most exciting and immersive science attractions. Offering a full day of discovery for families, school groups and anyone fascinated by space. Spread across several themed galleries, the centre brings the story of space exploration to life through hands‑on exhibits, real spacecraft, interactive displays and impressive large‑scale installations.

Each gallery focuses on a different part of space science. In Orbiting Earth, you can learn how satellites work and see how they help us understand our planet. Exploring the Universe dives into galaxies, stars and black holes, with stunning visuals and easy‑to‑follow explanations. The Tranquillity Base gallery recreates a lunar base, letting children try out fun role‑play activities and discover what life on the Moon might be like. Into Space is packed with rockets, suits and equipment used by astronauts, while Our Solar System explores the planets with interactive models and engaging displays. The Rocket Tower remains one of the centre’s most iconic features, housing two real rockets and offering fantastic views across the building.

A highlight for many visitors is the Sir Patrick Moore Planetarium, which hosts spectacular shows daily. These immersive experiences take you on journeys through space, from the night sky above Leicester to distant galaxies. It’s well worth reserving your time slot when you arrive, as shows often fill up quickly.

Tetrastar Spaceport is the brand-new experience at the National Space Centre. A low Earth orbit cruise is included in your day ticket (subject to availability). Take a seat on the Tharsis spacecraft and join the ever helpful ADA, as you head off on a journey to the stars. Available at weekends and school holidays. Tetrastar Spaceport is suitable for 5+ children (minimum 1m height when accompanied by an adult).

Throughout the centre, children can drive a mini moon buggy, test their reaction speeds, pose in a space suit, and explore recreated mission environments. Exhibits are designed to be hands‑on, educational and fun, making it easy for families to learn together. Once you’ve purchased your ticket, you can upgrade it at the entrance for a free annual pass, allowing unlimited return visits for 12 months, perfect for families who want to explore again.

Is there food and drink available?

There is a cafe on-site which serves hot and cold drinks and limited fast food such as hot dogs, sandwiches and nachos. You are welcome to picnic inside away from the cafe, but tables are limited.

What are the main things to do?

A hands‑on, immersive attraction in Leicester with themed galleries, real spacecraft, interactive exhibits and a spectacular planetarium that brings the story of space exploration to life for families. There are toilets, a shop and a fast-food cafe.

What are the ticket prices?

Tickets are cheaper online. Online, an adult ticket costs £22 and children are £20.00. Under 5 are free. Once you have purchased your ticket, you can then upgrade it at the entrance for a free annual pass. This means you can return as much as you like over the next 12 months for no extra cost.

When are they open?
