Scribbleton Scribbleton Scribbleton

Scribbleton is somewhere a bit different. It is an indoor role‑play centre in Winkleigh, Devon, designed as a small “town” where children can explore different jobs, settings and characters through imaginative play. The space is set up with a series of themed areas, each created with a lot of detail and sized for younger children to move around independently. Everything is built at child height, with realistic props and simple layouts that make it easy for children to understand how each space works.

The centre includes a mix of everyday settings such as shops, cafés and workspaces, along with more creative zones that encourage open‑ended play. Children can move freely between the areas, choosing what they want to do and how long they want to stay in each space. The design focuses on calm, purposeful play rather than overstimulation, and the whole environment has a consistent, hand‑crafted aesthetic. Parents stay in the play space, and the layout makes it easy to supervise without needing to follow children closely.

The seating is positioned so adults can relax while still keeping an eye on the play areas. The centre is fully accessible, and sessions are capped to prevent overcrowding. Ear defenders are available for children who need them, and the atmosphere is generally quieter than a typical soft play or activity centre. Sessions are pre‑booked, and the centre also offers birthday parties and group visits for schools and nurseries. Scribbleton is aimed at children up to around 7 years old, but older siblings are welcome, and babies can also join sessions.
