Princess Diana Memorial Playground
The Princess Diana Memorial Playground, located beside Kensington Palace, is one of London’s most loved family attractions and a beautiful tribute to a princess who championed the magic and innocence of childhood. Over one million visitors enjoy this free playground every year, making it a must‑visit for families exploring the capital.
Originally opened in 2000, the playground underwent a major £3 million renewal by The Royal Parks charity and reopened in August 2026. The redesigned space is bigger, more imaginative and far more inclusive, offering a wide range of play opportunities for children of all ages and abilities.
At the heart of the playground is a spectacular 17‑metre by 12‑metre wooden Galleon, moored on a sandy beach and ready for adventure. Children can climb two crow’s nests, zoom down a large tunnel slide, peer through a play telescope and explore the hidden nooks below deck, complete with a play kitchen and cosy hideaways.
Nearby stands the enchanting Treehouse of Dreams, featuring three towers connected by climbing routes and an exciting four‑metre tunnel slide. An accessible walkway winds through the structure, offering musical instruments, talk tubes and interactive games so every child can join in the fun. The waterplay area is another highlight, centred around a giant crocodile sculpture. Kids can cool off on warm days, experiment with dams and channels, and enjoy hands‑on water play. For younger visitors, a redesigned toddler zone includes timber houses, small play ships and a large sandpit perfect for imaginative play.
Inspired by the stories of Peter Pan, the playground encourages children to explore, imagine and learn together. With its inclusive design and magical atmosphere, it’s a wonderful place for families to spend time outdoors. Please note: last entry is 15 minutes before closing.
