Belvoir Castle in Leicestershire has now opened a wonderful new adventure playground. The playground has been inspired by the iconic architecture of Belvoir Estate and its past and present explorers. You can book tickets just for the adventure playground and the wonderful grounds and there is also an option to include a look around the castle. I will pop more info on prices at the end of this post.

We were invited to the opening of the playground.

When you arrive at Belvoir castle there is a large pay and display car park. Their machine takes coins or cards and you can pay for a few hours or all day parking. We paid £6 for all-day parking. There are some toilets and a small cafe at the top of the car park and over the road is the Engine Yard with shops and a restaurant. During our visit they had a Halloween trail and crafts there.

Once you have passed through the main entrance the new playground is at the bottom of the hill to your right. The first thing to greet you is a huge wooden pirate ship. My son is 9 and he happily played alongside children of all ages. Even grandparents can follow their kids around on most of the equipment.

There is a long walkway to the pirate ship and it then has an above and below deck with some fun mirrors, a ship’s wheel and out the top end of the ship there is a zip wire. Off to the left of the ship there is a slide that is suitable for most ages. This we found a little hard to get to, it really needs a path next to the slide so kids can enjoy multiple turns should they want them.

They have a lovely area for toddlers which you can see in the photo below. This has a mini castle with a bridge and a slide. Plus a fun car structure which is inspired by the present Duke’s 100-year-old Renault and includes a play horn.

The lovely thing about the playground is how well it blends in with its woodland environment. The castle play area is especially lovely. There is a climbing wall and kids can use a series of stairs, another climbing wall and ladders to get to the top tube slide.

After spending some time having lots of fun in the playground we continued our visit exploring the castle. There is a lovely tea room in the castle which has had a much-needed revamp since we were last there. We booked a table upon our arrival and all three of us were suitably impressed with our food.

We also later explored the grounds which have a number of follies including a cave, a grotto and the wooden hut pictured below. There are also other garden areas including a Japanese Woodland and a Rose Garden. More information on Belvoir Castle can be found here.
