Playhive at Stockeld Park – Huge Indoor Play Area Review

Stockeld Park near Wetherby in North Yorkshire is now home to a huge indoor play area. The Playhive is a massive 20,000 square feet of indoor fun and it is one of the biggest indoor play areas in Europe. We were lucky with our visit and we managed to get lots of photos and footage before it got too busy so you can get a great idea below of what to expect.

Playhive Stockeld Park – Review

The Playhive has four themed interconnected areas including space, air, the jungle, and the sea. There is so much to explore and discover. I had booked a 10:20 time slot (the first of the day) as this is the cheaper way of booking the Playhive. From £18.50 per person, you can reserve your timeslot in the Playhive which will get you 90 minutes of playtime.

As it happened it was chucking it down with rain when we arrived. We were given the option of upgrading our ticket to all-day access to the Playhive. We jumped at the chance as we hadn’t come prepared so I paid an extra £7.00 for us both to upgrade to all-day access. I had a feeling we wouldn’t have time for much else at Stockeld that day and I wasn’t wrong.

They had plenty of free lockers to use next to the Playhive. They don’t permit any food or drink into the play area which is a great idea. Everyone also HAS to wear socks. They also sell some slipper socks which are great for your feet as there is lots of climbing to do. You can go back to your locker as much as you like.

I am going to let the photos speak for themselves and then you can hopefully watch our vlog to see even more. There is so much to climb and play on. I lost count of the number of slides that they have.

Adults can go everywhere as well and they have made some areas too high for younger children to climb by themselves so if they want to explore they will need an adult with them to keep an eye on them.

I think the play area is perfect for children from the age of 4-5 right up to at least 13. There is such a wide variety of imaginative play in there. Some of it was hard to get to as the park got busier so if you can get there earlier then I can highly recommend you do just that.

There is a slight design flaw where the gorilla is placed as I think they perhaps misjudged how popular this would be. But that literally is my only complaint and it’s not really a complaint as the gorilla is awesome. Throw a banana in its mouth and climb the walls to hit the buttons – you will soon see what I mean.

As we had all-day access we played from 10 am until 11:30. We then stopped for lunch in the new cafe next to the play area. This sells pizza and pasta and everything seems to be freshly made, we loved our pizza.

There are plenty of tables in this area. We returned to the Playhive after lunch for about 45 minutes and then headed out for a bit of outdoor play and a wander around the maze.

Some final words. It is not a cheap day out but believe me your kids, and you, will love it. My son wishes we lived closer he enjoyed it so much. He is nearly 9 and I love how there is something for all age ranges.

I think when you see how high-quality everything is and how well-maintained the park is you will understand that the price is justified. You might struggle to do everything in one day but if you can be there from 10 am until 4 pm you should be OK. We have honestly never been anywhere like it before and I love how play is evolving and improving for kids. They are so lucky to have access to what there is out there today.
