Opened in the summer of 2022 is The Hex Hotel at Yorkshire Wildlife Park. We were visiting for the Winter Illuminations and as it’s a 1hr30 drive back home I decided to book us a stay over in their hotel.

For £200 I booked an Interconnecting Family Room. This, I felt, was great value for money. We had a bedroom with a king-sized bed and a bedroom with twin beds. With the two interconnecting doors open it felt like one big room. This price also included park entry for all three of us (day ticket, not for the illuminations) plus breakfast for all three of us.

The hotel is located in The Hive area which is a new area to Yorkshire Wildlife Park. Here there is the main entrance to the park, the themed restaurant Evolution, Uproar indoor Play Barn, shops and Wilds restaurant.

We loved the look of the hotel from the outside. Oddly the hotel reception isn’t actually in the hotel. It’s nearby but not really close which seemed a strange concept. I can’t really figure out why they decided to do this. Once you have checked in you will then need your room card to get into the hotel itself.

It all felt very new and modern and incredibly clean, we could even still smell the new carpets in the corridors. Our rooms were relatively easy to find and although connecting we had room cards for both of the rooms.

As well as family interconnected rooms they also have family rooms, suites, standard rooms and accessible rooms. Although I paid £200 our rooms do actually start in price at £144 which if you can visit when it’s that cheap is incredibly good value for money. We were more than happy even at £200.

Both rooms had excellent facilities with air conditioning, there was even an ironing board! There was a large safe and a reasonably large fridge (empty). The TV was a good size which unusually for a hotel room had YouTube.

There was a very clean kettle, glasses and cups plus tea bags, coffee sachets, hot chocolate and some very tasty biscuits. I’ve seen less in a five-star hotel!

The shower rooms were also really impressive. They were both nice and spacious and the towels were actually fluffy. There was also a small range of toiletries.

We found it odd the only seating was a couple of bean bags and stools but the bean bags were surprisingly comfy. We also found the beds very comfy.

This was our view. The room next to ours actually had a balcony which would be nice in the warmer months. We could see a bit of the park from our rooms.

The style of the windows actually made the outdoors look like pictures. It was nice to be able to watch one of the dinosaurs in their new area moving its head.

Breakfast was served from 7 a.m. and there was only one other family in the restaurant when we went at 7:30 a.m. It is a buffet with a really good choice of food. It was one of the best buffets we’ve seen in recent months. There was a good selection of hot food, toast-making facilities, pastry, cereal, yoghurt and lots of fresh fruit. The only disappointment was the juice, it was more like watered-down cordial which was a huge shame.

Breakfast is served in Wild’s Cafe Bistro which is also where we had dinner. This is next door to the hotel but you have to walk outside to get there.

All in all, it was a really lovely stay and I am sure we will return.
