Running parallel to the pebble beach of Kolymbari is the Avra Imperial Hotel in Crete. This is a luxurious hotel with a state-of-the-art spa, a la carte dining and a super stylish pool scene. The hotel’s gardens are filled with palm trees and the nearby village centre is less than a five-minute walk away. A little further on is the harbour at Kolymbari. Located on Crete’s northwest coast it has majestic cliffs on one side and the Mediterranean Sea on the other. You can expect cosy tavernas, fish restaurants and great scenery. Chania airport is a 90-minute drive away.
Highlights
The hotel’s lake-style pool covers around 1,500 square metres of the hotel’s grounds. It features a swim-up bar and muslin-shaded daybeds. What’s special about the pool is that it sits slightly higher than the pathways around it. This has allowed them to install glass infinity edges so that you can see right through the water. There are two pools for children with oversized parasols for all the family to enjoy some shade.

Your Board Basis
There are three types of board to choose from at the Avra Imperial. You can choose to stay bed and breakfast, half-board or all-inclusive. The all-inclusive package includes a buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner. You can also enjoy one meal per week at the Blue Dong Asian a la carte, the Al Fresco Italian a la carte and the Avra Seaside Mediterranean restaurant. Please book upon your arrival. Also included are snacks at set times, selected local-brand alcohol, soft drinks, tea and coffee. You have a number of bars to choose from plus a few other restaurants.
Additional Activities
As well as the kid’s club the hotel also has a creche in which you can book your babies and toddlers for sessions. Sports-wise there are two tennis courts, table tennis, aerobics and a pool table. Other facilities include a playground, an indoor play area and a games room.
Adults can unwind at the Apivita Spa with its indoor heated swimming pool, a steam room and a Finnish sauna. There is also a fully-equipped gym, a hairdresser and beauty treatments, On-site there is a mini market and a cash machine. The hotel also hires out a good range of baby equipment.
Entertainment
For children aged 4 to 12, there is a kid’s club. Activities may include arts and crafts, sports, cooking classes, treasure hunts and games. Some activities may include a charge and the 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. slot incurs a fee. Live music is held several nights a week at Le Bar plus the occasional themed night.
