Shaw’s Corner is a National Trust property located near Welwyn, Hertfordshire. It was the primary residence of the renowned Irish playwright George Bernard Shaw. It is now open to the public and inside many of the rooms remain as Shaw left them.

What is there to do at Shaws Corner?

The house is an Edwardian home with Arts and Crafts features and items. As you walk from room to room you will be able to take in the beautiful Arts and Crafts interiors and see fascinating links with the past. Entry to the house is by guided experience only, visits must be booked in advance. Each tour lasts around 45 minutes.

The gardens feature rolling lawns, vibrant summer borders and a fruit orchard. You can also see Shaw’s iconic rotating writing hut. He could follow the sun throughout the day and he wrote many of his plays from his retreat behind the trees. You can also enjoy a long 7.6-mile circular walk.

There is a cafe serving food and drinks. You are welcome to bring a picnic.

Free for members of the National Trust. Mid-range – Adult standard ticket is £9.50, children £4.75, children aged under 5 are free and family tickets are available.
