RSPB Rye Meads
RSPB Rye Meads is a nature reserve situated along the River Lea near Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire. It is a 58.5-hectare site which is a Site of Special Interest with a series of wetlands and reservoirs.
It is a firm favourite with walkers, birdwatchers and photographers thanks to its many trails and hides. Artificial sandbanks are a good place to spot Kingfishers and there is usually a range of waterfowl and other birds.
You can hire special child-friendly explorer backpacks during your visit. They also host a range of events, nature trails, guided walks and family fun days. There is a range of trails including the Moorhen trail which is a 15-20 minute walk, the Kingfisher trail, a 20-15 minute walk and the Otter trail a 40-50 minute walk.
