Glasgow Riverside Museum

Museum Overview

The Glasgow Riverside Museum is an award-winning transport museum located by the water at Pointhouse Quay in the centre of Glasgow. They have over 3,000 objects on display and the museum first opened in mid-2011.

It houses the city’s transport and technology collections which have been gathered over the centuries. They reflect the importance of Glasgow through its contributions to the world such as shipbuilding, train manufacturing and engineering.

The museum displays everything from skateboards to locomotives and from cars to a Stormtrooper. There are over 90 large touchscreen panels full of images and films that tell the stories behind the objects. Plus there is an old cobbled Glasgow street you can walk down with shops dating from 1895 to the 1980s, a bar and a subway.

There are plenty of hands-on interactive displays with lots of cars and motorbikes to see. You can even help put out a fire with their interactive fire engine. Outside there is the Tall Ship the Glenless. This is the UK’s only floating Clyde-built sailing ship which, like the museum, is free to enter. There are all sorts on board to entertain the kids including an under-5s play area in the cargo hold and a mouse hunt.
