Bradgate Park

Bradgate Park is a vast park of 830 acres near Newton Linford in Leicestershire. It is a Medieval deer park that is steeped in history. The park was first enclosed as a deer park around 800 years ago. It has a wild and rugged landscape that has dramatic rocky outcrops and many old oak trees, some of which are over 500 years old. You can enjoy some fantastic views from different parts of the park.

Most of the park is made up of hills, however, the lower part is easily accessible and has a tarmac path that is suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs. You will also find the visitor and cafe here. There are a few focal points in the park including Old John. This is an 18th-century folly that sits on the highest point of the park. It is often referred to as the ‘Icon of Leicestershire’. The tower is open for viewings at certain times of the year.

Other areas of interest in the park include the ruins of Bradate house which are protected as a Scheduled Ancient Monument. These are open every weekend from April until late October. Plus the River Lin is a lovely spot to enjoy a picnic, watch the deer and feed the ducks and there are some shallows for paddling.
