M Shed

Museum Overview

M Shed is a museum located on Princes Wharf in Bristol. It has a range of colourful exhibits that detail the history of the city and its people in a 1950s dockside transit shed. Inside you can explore the city through time, its places, people and their stories.

The Bristol Places gallery focuses on the physical and dynamic city. Also, the ways that people have shaped and experienced it and continue to do so. There are also the Working Exhibits which are their larger exhibits housed just outside of M Shed which can be seen even when the museum is closed.

Also at the museum, there is the Bristol People Gallery which explores what makes Bristol what it is. Plus the Bristol Life gallery shares stories from the city. The final area is Treasures in store which is open at certain times for guided tours. This contains thousands of items from the industrial, maritime and social history collections.

For families, there is a trail which you can take around the museum with you. There are also free family explorer kids. At certain times of the year, they also run train trips on Britain’s only dockside steam railway plus other events, such as walking tours.
