Yeovil Railway Centre

Yeovil Railway Centre

Yeovil Railway Centre is located in Barwick near Yeovil, Somerset. It is a small railway museum at Yeovil Junction on the L&SWR West of England mainline between Salisbury and Exeter.

What is there to do at Yeovil Railway Centre?

They have ex-National railway museum wagons on display plus they run steam-hauled train rides and there is a miniature railway. The centre was originally formed in 1994 to preserve the original turntable. Today you can watch the spectacle of large steam engines being turned and serviced.

Their Peckett steam engine is operational and it takes visitors on public rides of around 1/3rd of a mile. Visitors ride in a historic brake van or in a coach. When their steam strain is running both their miniature and model railways are normally running as well plus a demonstration of the turntable is often given.

The centre also runs diesel days and they run one of their diesel engines. Other special events, include tractors, Halloween, Santa Specials, Character days and more. There is a small play area for children.
