Chillingham Wild Cattle Park

Chillingham Wild Cattle Park

Chillingham Wild Cattle Park is located on the Chillingham Castle estate in the village of Chillingham, Northumberland. It is a separate visitor attraction to the castle and they are the only place with wild cattle in the world which are the sole survivors of herds that once roamed the forests of Britain.

In their history, they once both defended and fed the castle. The cattle are potentially dangerous so they can only be visited by their site Warden who will take you as close as safely possible to them. They will also explain their history and way of life. They are rarer than any endangered Panda or Mountain gorillas. You can purchase a joint castle ticket and extend your day out at Chillingham.

The park enjoys spectacular views of the Cheviot Hills and you may also see fallow and roe deer, red squirrels and wild birds. It is thought that the wild cattle have been living here for more than 700 years. There are over 100 animals, with around half of them being bulls.
