Murlough National Nature Reserve
Murlough National Nature Reserve is located by the sea in County Down. You can discover some wonderful sand dunes, wildlife and walking trails at the reserve. The reserve is maintained by the National Trust.
The sand dunes are around 6,000 years old and there is a network of paths through them plus woodland and heath. You can take the Dundrum Coastal Path and enjoy views across Dundrum Bay and there are many opportunities to watch the coastal wildlife.
At the reserve, there is a four-mile-long beach with golden sand and picturesque Mourne mountains. There is also a natural play area which includes wooden sculptures by a local artist. It is a great place for birdwatchers and you may even spot some seals at Ballykinlar beach. Other walks at the reserve include a 1-mile long woodland walk and a 3-mile nature trail. They also host a number of family-friendly events, during the school holidays including themed trails.
