Hillsborough Castle and Gardens
Hillsborough Castle and Gardens are located in Hillsborough, County Down. It is the official Northern Ireland residence of HM The King and leading members of the Royal family have visited the house since 1922. It has also been home to the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland since the 1970s.
Things to do at Hillsborough Castle and Gardens
You can explore the house including the grand Throne room, a drawing room, Lady Grey’s study, dining room, red room and the stair hall. There are expert castle hosts on hand to share details of the historic rooms.
Outside you can explore over 100 acres of ornamental lawns, waterways, woodlands and picturesque glens. It is one of the most beautiful and interesting historic properties in Northern Ireland. Families will love their interactive play trail the Imaginary Menagerie. This is an animal-inspired play trail through the castle’s gardens.
Also in the grounds, there is a beautiful restored 18th-century walled garden. Look out for the Grotto in the glen area of the Victorian garden. Other areas to explore include the lake and Pinetum plus a south terrace, Lady Alice’s temple and more.

What are the ticket prices?
Adults £10, children £5 for a garden-only ticket. An adult house and garden ticket costs £15.25, children aged 5-15 £7.60, under 5 are free and family tickets are available. Members of Historic Houses can visit for free.

When are they open?
