Fireground Museum
Museum Overview
Fireground is a museum that tells the story of firefighting, particularly in the Greater Manchester region. It is located in the centre of Rochdale. The museum first opened in 2021 it offers visitors the opportunity to explore a fascinating history of firefighting.
The area has played a significant role in the story of fire brigades and fire engineering, especially as Manchester formed England’s first municipal fire service in 1826. There are 25 fire engines on display plus firefighting equipment, uniforms, models, medals, curios and more.
There’s an immersive Victorian street scene and a scene from the Blitz, complete with lighting and sound effects. The best bit for little ones is the many interactive display elements, including a play area with a fireman’s pole to slide down.
