Gold Hill Museum

Museum Overview
Gold Hill Museum is located at the top of the picturesque Gold Hill in Shaftesbury, Dorset. The street is steeply inclined with a cobbled surface and is well known for the Hovis “Boy on a Bike” advert.
It is a modern museum that is set in two historic buildings. One was once a priest’s house that still has a “squint” through the wall to St Peter’s Church and the other provided basic lodgings for traders that once traded at the market on Gold Hill.
There are eight galleries to explore that tell the story of rural and town life. Highlights include a unique Byzant that was carried during annual celebrations, Dorset’s oldest fire engine that dates back to 1744, fine lacework, handmade Dorset buttons and a mummified cat.
