South Walney Nature Reserve

The South Walney Nature Reserve is located in Walney, near Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria. It enjoys stunning views across Morecambe Bay and it is a fantastic place for bird watching plus seal watching. It is home to the only grey seal colony in Cumbria.

There are several waymarked trails on the reserve. The red trail is 3 miles long and the blue trail is 2 miles long. Grey seals can be seen at high tide year round. There is a variety of different birds to see throughout the year which changes with the seasons.

You are not permitted in the area of the nature reserve where the seals are located but you can view them from a distance. The reserve is mostly notable for its gulls.
