Heugh Battery Museum

Heugh Battery Museum

The Heugh Battery Museum is located in Hartlepool, County Durham. It is home to a collection of historical weapons, uniforms and artefacts in a former armoury.

Museum Overview

It preserves the only First World War battlefield in the UK and it commemorates the Bombardment of Hartlepool in December 1914. Guns of the Heugh battery and neighbouring Lighthouse battery were engaged in ship-to-shore combat with the German navy.

There is a large military collection on display in a relatively small museum and there are friendly volunteers on hand to help visitors understand more about the objects on display. The venue is divided across three levels with the underground magazines, the parade ground and the main museum with the Observation Point tower providing panoramic views of the North Sea and surrounding coastline.
