Blair Castle and Gardens are located in Blair Atholl near Pitlochry, Perthshire. It is the ancestral home of the Clan Murray and the castle is a category A listed building. The first building was said to have been built in 1269 and it has seen a long and varied history with parts from the 15th, 16th and 18th centuries.

In the castle, there are more than 30 rooms on display. They are full of Scottish cultural history, architectural design, period furnishings, family portraits and a colourful military past. Highlights include the Victorian Ballroom that is decorated with 175 pairs of antlers. Other rooms you can see include the Entrance Hall with weapons from the Battle of Culloden, the Georgian-style picture staircase and the grand drawing room and state dining room.

There are nine acres of walled gardens to explore complete with a Chinese bridge, a gothic folly and a trail of contemporary and 18th-century sculptures. There is a wooded grove with some of Britain’s tallest and finest trees plus the ruins of St Brides Kirk, the final resting place of Jacobite leader Bonnie Dundee. You can enjoy views across Highland Perthshire, spot local wildlife and the red deer park. Children can let off steam in the adventure playground.
