Midlothian Snowsports Centre
The Midlothian Snowsports Centre, based at Hillend on the edge of Edinburgh, is one of the UK’s most exciting dry-slope facilities, a go-to destination for skiing, snowboarding, tubing and more, all year round. Nestled in the foothills of the Pentland Hills, the centre is run by Midlothian Council and features two long, floodlit main slopes, plus several nursery slopes and a fun freestyle slope that’s perfect for practising tricks.
One of the most exciting additions to the centre is Scotland’s first alpine coaster. This gravity-powered ride travels almost 1,000 metres down the hillside, giving riders a controlled but exhilarating descent through impressive Highland scenery.
For a different kind of downhill thrill, try tubing — zoom down the slope in a giant inflatable ring, ideal for family fun or adrenaline seekers alike. And when you’re ready to take a break, Café 360 is the perfect spot to rest, grab a warm drink and enjoy sweeping views of the Pentland Hills.
Whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced athlete, there’s something for you here. Qualified instructors deliver lessons for all ages and ability levels, while coaching and race training are offered for those who want to push themselves further. It’s even used as a national training centre for Scottish skiers, thanks to its long 400‑metre slopes and professional facilities.
