Grey Mares Tail Nature Reserve
The Grey Mares Tail Nature Reserve is located near Moffat, Dumfries and Galloway. It is a paradise for wildlife enthusiasts and it gets its name from the 60-metre valley waterfall. The reserve is owned by the National Trust for Scotland.
You can enjoy a range of walks with some breathtaking views including one of the UK’s highest waterfalls that plunges 60 metres from Loch Skeen. You should be able to spot the effects of glacial erosion on the landscape and hopefully spot some of the abundant wildlife. Keep an eye out for ospreys, ring ouzels, feral goats and peregrine falcons.
The waterfall viewpoint is an easy 5-minute walk from the car park. There are lots of walks to enjoy in the reserve. In the summer months, they run ranger-led fossil hunts and other special events.
