Montrose Basin Wildlife Reserve

The Montrose Basin Visitor Centre and Wildlife Reserve is located near the centre of Montrose, Angus. It is run by the Scottish Wildlife Trust and it is an enclosed estuary of the river Esk covering 750 hectares of tidal mudflats.

It offers feeding and roosting ground to a plethora of bird species. In autumn and winter, it is home to over 100,000 migratory birds including geese, waders and waterfowl. During the spring and summer months, the estuary supports various breeding colonies including martins, common terns and eider.

The Visitor Centre offers panoramic views across the reserve. They also have a range of children’s activities, there is always something for children to do within the centre. There are some fantastic walks to enjoy around Montrose Basin ranging from short to long walks with 5 to choose from and they all include bird hides so don’t forget your binoculars.
