Aberdeen Maritime Museum
Museum Overview
Aberdeen Maritime Museum is located in the centre of Aberdeen in Scotland. It is located close to the busy harbour on the historic Shiprow.
The museum tells the story of the city’s long and often dramatic relationship with the sea. It looks at the early days of trading, fishing and shipbuilding. Plus the discovery of North Sea oil and gas and Aberdeen’s place today as a leader in the global energy transition.
There are a number of collections which are displayed across four floors of the museum. It is a fully-accessible museum and highlights include ship models from 1689 to the present day. There are whaler’s harpoons and scrimshaw, medieval imported goods and the entire deck of a historic steamer.
The top floor of the museum enjoys views over the harbour, looking out at the oldest existing business in Britain with a history spanning almost 900 years.
