Amersham Museum

Museum Overview

The Amersham Museum is located on the High Street in Amersham, Buckinghamshire. It is mostly based in a medieval hall house and the museum explores life in the town through different periods in time.

You can sit at the Tudor dinner table, relax in the 1930s living room or listen to stories in Ron Haddock’s 1960s record shop. The museum has a changing visiting exhibition programme and they also offer guided walks and additional activity sessions.

The museum has been open to visitors since 1991 and it was reopened in 2017 after a substantial redevelopment and expansion into the neighbouring Victorian building. The displays focus on five key dates in the town’s history: 1580, 1775, 1892, 1939 and 1864. Visitors can find out about the people who lived in the town at the time, the buildings from that era and what daily life was like.

Outside there is a garden full of plants with medicinal and domestic use. Each is labelled to help you find out what they are and what they can be used for.
