Museum Overview

The Andrew Carnegie Birthplace Museum is located in Dunfermline, Fife. He is a world-famous Scot whose life and international legacy are showcased in this fascinating museum.

He was a steel tycoon, a writer, a lecturer, an entrepreneur and a philanthropist. Although his life has left a huge legacy his birthplace cottage testifies to the humble beginnings that he came from. Adjacent to the museum is a beautiful Art Deco museum hall that was built by his widow in 1928.

You can visit the cottage where he was born and spent the early years of his life. There are exhibits showing what it was like to emigrate to America with just a few possessions. You can also discover how Carnegie set up his businesses in Pittsburgh, USA and how he became the richest man in the world.

Over 470 objects were donated by his widow and they include works of art, photographs, costumes, medals, badges and more. There is now today a collection of around 5,000 items. The museum hosts a number of family-friendly events and activities.
