Armadale Castle Gardens and Museum

Armadale Castle Gardens and Museum

Museum Overview

Armadale Castle Gardens and Museum are located near Armadale Sleat on the Isle of Skye. It is a magnificent Highland estate with some spectacular gardens set around the romantic ruins of Armadale Castle.

There are 40 acres of colourful gardens and woodland trails. They are the perfect place to explore, relax and take in some panoramic views. The gardens were laid out by Lord MacDonald in the early 19th century and have since been restored by a charitable trust.

The castle ruins sit in a dramatic position overlooking the Sound of Sleat. Sadly it is currently unstable so it is fenced off for your safety but you can still enjoy the magnificent views and plans are in place to stabilise the structure to allow full access. There is also a playground within the grounds.

Entry to the award-winning Museum of the Isles is included in your ticket to the castle. You can experience the history of the Highlands and Islands through the epic story of Clan Donald, Scotland’s largest and most powerful clan. There are children’s trails plus an activity area with books, toys and dressing up. They usually have school holiday family activities and changing exhibitions.
