Avoncroft Museum of Historic Buildings

The Avoncroft Museum of Historic Buildings is close to Bromsgrove in Worcestershire. It is home to over 30 different buildings and structures which have been rescued and re-built on-site. The museum was first opened back in 1967 and became England’s first open-air museum .
What it there to do at Avoncroft Museum of Historic Buildings?
Buildings include a fully functioning windmill and a post-WWII prefab house that was used in many towns and cities after the war. There is a Victorian church that was originally built in 1891 at Bringsty Common in Herefordshire, the church is licensed for wedding blessings and services are even held there. Other exhibits which span over 700 years of history include a Perry mill, a toll house, an earth closet, a cruch frame barn, a granary and a counting house.
Some of the buildings are furnished internally to present a view of life in a particular area of the building, others are empty or contain display materials. The museum also contains the UK’s national telephone exchange kiosk including an interactive collection of rescued telephone boxes. The museum hosts a number of events, largely with a focus on families.
The museum has a forest play area that includes a play windmill. The play windmill incorporates a slide pole, a climbing wall, a climbing net, and two accessible levels – quite a lot for a relatively small piece of play apparatus. The area is accessed along a walkway through the trees.
