Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art

Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art

The Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art is located by the River Tyne in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear. It is a vast converted mill which hosts temporary shows by contemporary artists. The gallery is the biggest of its kind in the world. They have an ever-changing calendar of exhibitions and activities. They present a dynamic, diverse and international programme of contemporary visual art.

You can see some wonderful scenic views from their lifts. These travel the height of the building at a speed of two metres per second. They are made of glass so you can enjoy the views on the way up and from their outdoor gallery at the top.

There is a popular sensory room with sensory toys, projections and lights. This is available Wednesday – Sunday as a free, drop-in for little ones.
