Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden

Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden

Museum Overview

The Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden is located in the heart of Saint Ives, Cornwall. The site offers a remarkable insight into the work and outlook of one of Britain’s most important twentieth-century sculptures.

Barbara first came to live in Cornwall at the outbreak of the war in 1939. She lived and worked in Trewyn studios which are now the Barbara Hepworth museum from 1949 until her death in 1975. Most of the bronzes you can see there today are in the positions in which the artist herself placed them. The garden you can see today was also laid out by Barbara Hepworth with a little help from her friend the composer Priaulx Rainier.
