The gardens have been described as Amber Valley’s ‘Jewel in the Crown’ and they are particularly attractive in the summer months. The gardens are small but there is a lovely new children’s play area and it’s a pleasant place to visit.
Located in the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage site and adjacent to Strutt’s historic North Mill the riverside promenade allows flat easy access to the gardens and the riverside. Rowing boats may be hired in the summer and you can take a trip along nearly three miles of the river. You can also take out one of their swan pedalos. Throughout the summer there are band concerts, outdoor theatre and other special events.
There are usually ducks on the pond or the river so make sure you take some food for them. The play area is well-equipped with something for all ages. The equipment reflects the local industrial history. There is a poetry trail around Belper that uses a piece of artwork to depict the chosen poem.
