Bircham Windmill is located near Great Bircham, Norfolk. It stands in the heart of Norfolk’s undulating fields and looks today as it would have done over 100 years ago.

Things to do at Bircham Windmill

In its heyday, there were lots of windmills in Norfolk, today very few are left. Bircham Mill is considered one of the best still remaining and it is the only windmill in working order in the area that is open to the public. Visitors can climb the five flowers up to the fan stage and on windy days visitors can also see the sails turning and also the milling machinery in operation. There are some animals on-site including donkeys, ponies and goats. Children can stroke the goats and feed them with special food from their dispenser.

The bakery adjoining the mill still has its original, coal-fired oven for you to see. They still bake in the original bakery and they sell a wide range of bread and cakes. They also sell the flour that they use for their baking. You can come and bake bread at the windmill.

They have a quick Make and Bake option where they give you a piece of dough and you then create whatever you like. This costs £3.50 and is suitable for everyone and anyone aged 2 to 102. You can also bake from scratch which costs £5.75.

There is a tea room serving food and drinks. You are welcome to picnic outdoors.

Adults £6, children aged 4-15 £4, under 4 are free and family tickets are available. Bread making costs £3.50-5.75.
